Description

A beautiful celestine geode specimen from the classic Sankoany area of Madagascar, displaying a richly crystalline interior lined with lustrous, translucent to transparent sky-blue crystals. The specimen has an attractive natural geode form, with a pale whitish outer rind framing an open pocket of well-developed celestine crystals. The most eye-catching feature is the cluster of upright prismatic crystals rising from the interior cavity. Several show sharp chisel-like terminations with notably deeper blue coloration concentrated at the tips, creating a refined color gradient from soft icy blue bodies to more saturated blue caps. This zoning gives the piece excellent visual depth and a particularly elegant display character. The crystals exhibit bright vitreous luster, with clean reflective faces and crisp edges. Many of the larger crystals are gemmy to translucent, allowing light to pass through their pale blue interiors and reveal subtle internal veils, growth features, and reflective planes. Around the central crystals, smaller celestine points and sparkling drusy growth line the geode walls, adding texture and brilliance across the entire pocket. Compositionally, the specimen is pleasingly balanced: the rounded geode rim forms a natural sculptural frame, while the taller central and side crystals provide height and focus. The contrast between the frosty white matrix and the cool blue crystals enhances the freshness of the piece. Fine examples from Sankoany are prized for their delicate color, glassy luster, and attractive geode presentations, and this specimen captures those qualities beautifully.
