Crocoite – Fiery Red-Orange Radiating Acicular Crystal Aggregate, Classic Dundas
Specifications
Description
Ex. Renato Pagano Collection (1938–2023), specimen no. 7682 A vivid and highly expressive specimen of Crocoite, composed of dense, radiating sprays of sharply elongated prismatic crystals in an intense, saturated red-orange hue. The piece displays the quintessential Dundas aesthetic—an exuberant explosion of acicular growths forming a richly textured, three-dimensional cluster. The crystals range from slender needles to more robust prisms, many exhibiting well-defined terminations and crisp edges. Their surfaces possess a bright, resinous to subadamantine luster, which amplifies the already electric coloration. Subtle translucency is visible along thinner terminations, where light penetrates and ignites the interior with a glowing, ember-like brilliance. The structure is complex and layered, with intersecting sprays creating depth and movement throughout the specimen. Small vugs and recesses between the crystal clusters add further visual intrigue, allowing light to play across multiple planes and enhancing the overall dynamism. Condition is excellent for the species, with only minor, expected edge contacts given the delicate nature of Crocoite. The specimen presents attractively from multiple angles and maintains strong integrity across its form. Dundas Crocoite remains among the most iconic and desirable mineral expressions globally, prized for its unmatched color intensity and dramatic crystal habit. This example captures those qualities with particular vibrancy and sculptural appeal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXNe_-pFu1E
