Description

(Hübnerite crystal: 1.5 × 1.2 × 0.1 cm) A refined and aesthetically balanced miniature cabinet specimen featuring a sharply defined, tabular Hübnerite crystal elegantly rising from a dense, glittering matrix of Quartz. This piece exemplifies the celebrated Mundo Nuevo association, where dark tungsten minerals contrast dramatically against luminous quartz. The Hübnerite crystal presents as a thin, bladed plate with crisp, well-defined edges and a slightly translucent character along its margins. Its color is a deep reddish-brown to nearly black, with subtle internal warmth visible under strong lighting—an indicator of quality within the Hübnerite series. The crystal exhibits a flattened, rectangular habit with a clean, geometric profile, and a lustrous surface that ranges from vitreous to submetallic. Surrounding and partially enveloping the Hübnerite is a vibrant matrix of Quartz crystals, forming a sparkling, snow-white framework of slender prismatic points. These quartz crystals are bright, glassy, and tightly intergrown, creating a dynamic, high-contrast stage that enhances the visual prominence of the Hübnerite blade. The interplay between the dark, planar Hübnerite and the radiating, translucent quartz adds both textural and compositional sophistication. The specimen is well-balanced and displays attractively from multiple angles, with the Hübnerite positioned prominently and without significant obstruction. Minor iron staining along the matrix adds a natural touch without detracting from the overall freshness. Mundo Nuevo Hübnerite specimens are prized for their sharp crystallization and striking associations, and this example—though modest in scale—captures the essence of the locality with precision and elegance.
