Description

An intellectually compelling specimen: a slender, doubly-terminated gem aquamarine crystal, formed in intimate association with black tourmaline (schorl), which remains partially enclosed within the beryl. Measuring an elegant 10.4 cm in length, this crystal displays fine transparency, a clean pale blue tone, and a vitreous, glassy luster characteristic of the finest pegmatitic aquamarine from the Braldu Valley. The prismatic form is sharply defined, with natural terminations at both ends—always a desirable and increasingly scarce feature in elongated crystals of this size. Most fascinating is the preserved association: the aquamarine appears to have crystallized perched against, or partially enveloping, a pre-existing schorl crystal. A remnant of that black tourmaline remains embedded within the midsection, providing a rare snapshot of sequential mineral growth within the pegmatite pocket. The specimen invites contemplation of its formation history—tourmaline crystallizing first, followed by beryl enveloping or abutting it as conditions evolved. There is a clean, precise lock-fit repair at the aquamarine–tourmaline junction. The restoration is discreet and structurally sound, maintaining the integrity and display quality of the piece without aesthetic compromise. Recent discoveries from Nyet Bruk (2024) have produced several elegant aquamarines, but examples combining all the attributes of this specimen are notably uncommon: 1. Doubly-terminated form 2. Gem clarity and pleasing blue coloration 3. Preserved tourmaline association 4. Slender, cabinet-length proportions Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this specimen offers narrative—the story of mineral succession within a high-altitude Himalayan pegmatite. For collectors who appreciate both beauty and geological context, this is a refined and thoughtful acquisition: elegant on display, and intellectually engaging upon closer study.
